Money. Power. Wisdom. blog review

October 27, 2007 · 2 Comments

Dr. Mani on his Money Power Wisdom blog http://www.moneypowerwisdom.com  is running a contest to encourage others to view & review his blog.  I have to admit that until he sent out the contest email  (Oct 25th) I hadn’t been reading his blog regularly. So I’ve been going back & reading some of his older posts. I must say for a man who does heart surgery for a living, he calls it like he sees it & isn’t afraid to call peoples bluff. Especially among many of the so called ‘internet guru’s’ out there.

One of several to stand out is his post on STRESS dated Sept 16 ‘07. If nothing brings home the effects of stress on the human body & the fact that most of it can be avoided by some careful planning, (& goodness knows a heart surgeon’s life must be incredibly stressful never mind one who has an internet business & a family too) this post should. Plain & simple unchecked stress has a 43% fatality rate. (study University of Houston Texas) Some of these folks aren’t really living the internet lifestyle. They’re letting the internet dominate their lives. And for what? So they push their revenues from 6 figures to 7? So they can be the first to get the very latest product out there? What good is a 7 figure income if you can’t enjoy it? & how good is your product if you have to stay up 41 hours ‘to get it out there’? If it’s that good, believe me people will wait another few days until you get all the kinks out.

Unfortunately unaddressed stress isn’t just for internet marketers. Through my own business providing corporate on-demand on-site massage http://www.inmyhands.ca I deal with workplace stress on a regular basis.  Many employers have a ‘thing’ about providing adequate stress relief for their staff. Instead of having on site massage ( a proven stress reliever) in on a regular basis, monthly or quarterly, we’re lucky to see most staff on an annual basis perhaps for only 10 - 15 minutes at a time.  The benefits are clear, the cost is minimal. Yet many employers would rather pay upwards of $12 billion annually in stress related downtime. (Canadian figures)

Need another unaddressed stress fact? Acording to the Oct 10th ‘07 edition of JAMA; Persons who reported chronic job strain after a first heart attack (myocardial infarction) had about twice the risk of experiencing another coronary heart disease event such as heart attack or unstable angina than those without chronic job strain. Article is listed @ http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/.

Here’s a quick stress relief tip to help you on a daily basis. Instead of always focusing on the ‘big picture’ and feeling overwhelmed by it all. Focus on the ‘little picture’.  Focus & be present in the now. (A little Zen never hurt anyone) Just focus on what you need to be doing right now. Multitasking doesn’t help you get it done any faster. Besides you’re much more likely to make a mistake, possibly even a fatal one (like driving & talking on your cell) when you do. So get a handle on your stress before it gets a grip on you.

p.s. Don’t forget to check out Dr. Mani’s fable, Pam meets a Guru posted @ http://www.moneypowerwisdom.com  A insightful fable from the land of the gurus (India) about everything you ever wanted to know about internet marketing & how not get taken to the cleaners along the way. It’s even FREE! ;~)

He Needed Me

October 16, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I like to share articles and columns that have appeared elsewhere. This one is in this month’s edition of my monthly newsletter: Healthy Horizons. You can subscribe to it on my corporate site http://www.inmyhands.ca

A nurse escorted a tired, anxious young man to the bed side of an elderly man. “Your son is here,” she whispered to the patient. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient’s eyes opened. He was heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack and he dimly saw the young man standing outside the oxygen tent.

He reached out his hand and the young man tightly wrapped his fingers around it, squeezing a message of encouragement. The nurse brought a chair next to the bedside. All through the night the young man sat holding the old mans hand, and offering gentle words of hope. The dying man said nothing as he held tightly to his son.

As dawn approached, the patient died. The young man placed on the bed the lifeless hand he had been holding, and then he went to notify the nurse. While the nurse did what was necessary, the young man waited. When she had finished her task, the nurse began to say words of sympathy to the young man. But he interrupted her.

“Who was that man?” He asked. The startled nurse replied, “I thought he was your father.” “No, he was not my father,” he answered. “I never saw him before in my life.” “Then why didn’t you say something when I took you to him?” asked the nurse. He replied, “I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn’t here. When I realized he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, I knew how much he needed me…”

Who needs you today? Reach out and touch someone.
