15 Irrefutable Marketing Proficiencies

November 18, 2008 · 1 Comment

This post is courtesy Adam Urbanski over at http://www.themarketingmentors.com . If you’re looking to attract clients like a magnet without the headaches, drop by his site, & check out all the great marketing material. Without further ado here’s Adam:

Time and again I talk with professionals and business owners who try one or two promotional strategies, don’t get the desired results and give up. They are confused about what marketing is and convinced it will never work for their business.

Does this sound like you? You see, marketing is more than just one technique. It’s about becoming proficient at many ‘little’ things. Here is my list of a few of those ‘little things.’

1) PASSION

I’m passionate about why I’m in business. What I do impacts who and what I care about. Performing my regular work activities gives me joy, re-energizes me and is my way of contributing to the world.

2) VISION

I can see where my business will be in the future. I’m excited to undertake the tasks necessary to get there. When I talk about my business, people around me become enthusiastic and willingly lend their support.

3) STRATEGY

My business is strategically driven by a long-term plan. I don’t get distracted by ‘busy work.’ All activities are results driven. I evaluate all opportunities based on my strategic plan.

4) CLARITY

I’m clear about who my ideal clients are, what problems I solve for them and how I do it. This clarity allows me to save time, money and energy; I only contact and follow-up with people who want and appreciate my services.

5) UNIQUENESS

What I do and how I do it differentiates me from others and creates ‘top-of-mind’ awareness in my chosen niche. My business is unique so I don’t have competition. Others, who offer similar services, simply provide an opportunity for me to sharpen my skills, outsource overflow work and create strategic alliances.

6) MESSAGE

My introduction easily and powerfully communicates who I am and what I do. My message is clear and memorable even to people who don’t need my services. My introduction is benefit-based, jargon-free, describes my ideal clients, their biggest problem and the solution I provide.

7) IDENTITY

My business identity is an extension of who I am. All aspects of my business — from my business cards, to stationary, to website, to my personal appearance — present a consistent, attractive image that’s appropriate for my industry.

8) MOMENTUM

My marketing strategies and activities are in line with my strengths and talents. It’s easy for me to promote my business because I love what I do, know the value I create and use only promotional activities I enjoy. I promote my business consistently and continuously and never allow the work I do for clients to break my marketing momentum.

9) METRICS

I don’t guess how well my business is doing. I have identified and regularly track specific, easy to measure performance indicators. At any point I can assess my progress against my written 90-day, six-month and one-year benchmarks.

10) SYSTEMS

All routine functions of my business are systematic; they are always done the same way and create predictable results every time. Lead generation, follow-up, keeping up clients’ files, tracking important dates, submitting proposals, sales process – I have a system for each one of those activities that allows me to complete them effectively and efficiently.

11) VALUE

I recognize that my clients buy not what I do but the value my work creates. I regularly attend training events and schedule activities that support me in learning fresh, valuable information (in- and outside of my area of expertise) so I become more indispensable to my clients. I’m clear about the value I deliver so I never hesitate to state my fees, recommend my business and ask for the sale.

12) TOOLS

My promotional resources are limited so I make them count; they illustrate my expertise and pre-sell my services. All my marketing materials describe my ideal clients, list the problems I solve and communicate the benefits of working with me. I use tools like articles, public presentations, teleclasses, workshops, regularly updated content on my website, and regularly published newsletters to attract new business and maintain connection with clients and strategic partners.

13) RELATIONSHIPS

I love my clients. I respect who they are and cherish the opportunity to be on their team. I recognize that they are people first and clients next. I strive to learn about their personal lives. I take note of and acknowledge their important dates — like birthdays and anniversaries. I’m there when they need support and celebrate their victories.

14) TEAM

I recognize my weaknesses and that I’m not an expert at everything. To bridge my shortcomings, I surround myself with other experts on whom I can readily call for support or refer clients to. They become my partners and board of advisors and help me grow my business.

15) MINDSET

I recognize that how I think about marketing and selling my services may limit my ability to grow my business. I make a conscious effort to continuously expand my marketing mindset. I look for and learn strategies that allow me to better leverage my unique talents and expertise as my best promotional tools.

That’s the list. Did you keep track of your ’score’?

If most of those statements are true for your business – congratulations. But if you realized you’ve got some work to do – don’t despair. There are many ways you can quickly elevate your level of mastery of these proficiencies.

Here are the three that come to mind right away:

  1. Regularly invest in your personal and entrepreneurial growth. Buy and read marketing books. Attend marketing seminars. An intense, daylong or weekend long session with a few experts can often give your business the jump-start you need.

  2. Invest in experts and follow their advice! When your problem is not enough know-how, or too many ideas and not enough action — perhaps a more ‘hands-on’ help is best for you. A marketing mentor can help you focus on a long-term strategy and identify action steps you will feel comfortable taking on a daily basis.

  3. Build your mastermind and support team. Having a group of like-minded individuals to discuss business ideas with, brainstorm, strategize, and stay accountable to can do magic for small business. Big companies have boards of directors – professionals and small business owners should have one too!

  4. Finally, keep this one thing in mind: mastering these proficiencies is not a matter of one day — it’s a matter of doing it daily. Give it a try & don’t forget to check out Adam’s site. You’ll be glad you did and thanks to Adam for sharing.

Bill C-51 Threatens Canadians Right To Self Determination!

May 8, 2008 · 2 Comments

Folks – Bill C-51 threatens your rights & freedom to take care of yourself, family & loved ones. The Canadian government is attempting to deny our rights to access, obtain & grow natural health products including vitamins, supplements, herbs, medicinal plants & fruits, even things like dandelions, cranberries & blueberries. Furthermore Bill C-51 is attempting to prohibit people from selling, giving advice, and treating people with natural health products.

This bill has passed a speedy second reading in the Canadian House of Commons, yet no mention has been made in the media of this attempt by the Harper government & Big Pharma to deny us our right & freedom not only to take care of ourselves, but to even obtain basic vitamins, supplements & herbs to enhance our daily life. They are also attempting to deny us access to allopathic & homeopatic medicines whihc have been around since the dawn of time.

May 10th is a National Day of Action here in Canada. If you value the rights & freedoms enshrined in our Constitution, make your voice heard.

‘(NaturalNews) A new law being pushed in Canada by Big Pharma seeks to outlaw up to 60 percent of natural health products currently sold in Canada, even while criminalizing parents who give herbs or supplements to their children. The law, known as C-51, was introduced by the Canadian Minister of Health on April 8th, 2008, and it proposes sweeping changes to Canada’s Food and Drugs Act that could have devastating consequences on the health products industry.

Among the changes proposed by the bill are radical alterations to key terminology, including replacing the word “drug” with “therapeutic product” throughout the Act, thereby giving the Canadian government broad-reaching powers to regulate the sale of all herbs, vitamins, supplements and other items. With this single language change, anything that is “therapeutic” automatically falls under the Food and Drug Act. This would include bottled water, blueberries, dandelion greens and essentially all plant-derived substances. At the same time that C-51 is outlawing herbs, supplements and vitamins, it would grant alarming new “enforcement” powers to the thugs enforcement agents who claim to be “protecting” the public from dangerous unapproved “therapeutic agents” like, say, dandelion greens. As explained on the www.Educate-Yourself.org website ((http://educate-yourself.org/cn/canadian…), the C-51 law would allow the Canadian government’s thugs enforcement agents to: Raid your home or business without a warrant
• Seize your bank accounts
• Levy fines up to $5 million and a jail terms up to 2 years for merely selling an herb
• Confiscate your property, then charge you storage fees for the expense involved in storing all the products they stole from you

C-51 would even criminalize the simple drying of herbs in your kitchen to be used in an herbal product, by the way. That would now be categorized as a “controlled activity,” and anyone caught engaging in such “controlled activities” would be arrested, fined and potentially jailed. Other “controlled activities” include labeling bottles, harvesting plants on a farm, collecting herbs from your back yard, or even testing herbal products on yourself! (Yes, virtually every activity involving herbs or supplements would be criminalized…)”

http://www.naturalnews.com/023121.html

If you value your freedoms which are your constitutional right as a Canadian, write your MP, sign petitons, get out there & protest. Don’t let US Big Pharma bully us into surrendering our rights & freedom to determine our health & well being.

The Four Pillars of Successful Entrepreneurs

April 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Just a little something to think about courtesy Ken Blanchard author of ‘The One Minute Entrepreneur’

The Four Pillars of Successful Entrepreneurs

  1. Pillar 1: Sales Must Exceed Expenses
  2. Pillar 2: Collect Your Bills
  3. Pillar 3: Take Care of Your Customers
  4. Pillar 4: Take Care of Your People

This caught my eye this morning while I was surfing. Irregardless of what business you’re in, I feel this is invaluable advice. Be well.

It’s… Tax Time! No Need To Panic…

April 11, 2008 · 1 Comment

That time of year is fast approaching. Yes it’s tax time once again. First piece of advice – don’t panic. Even if you’re totally disorganized & keep all your financial papers stashed in a box. Note: this advice is primarily for business owners. If you’re an entrepreneur, you’re a business owner.

There’s just three things you need to know right now. [1] It’ll take you about a day to get organized. [2] The basic information the tax man wants to know is how much you made & how much you spent to make it. [3] Get a professional to do the actual filing for you.  OK, let’s break it down.

[1] Haul out that box with all your financial stuff in it. The one with all your receipts from the post office, printer, web host, office supplies, rent receipts etc. etc. You know the one, hiding in the corner over there. If you’re super organized this is already sorted according to expenses. If not, you’ll have to do it now. What are you waiting for? Start sorting!

  1. Postal,
  2. office supplies,
  3. entertainment,
  4. charity,
  5. web master,
  6.  web hosting,
  7. DNS registration,
  8. liability insurance
  9. professional association memberships
  10. legal & or accounting fees
  11. outsourcing fees / sub contractors ie other massage practitioners

[2] I think you get the picture. Now total each amount up & write it down.  Separatelytotal up how much you made (earned) not forgetting to keep the amount you collected for the government (GST etc) seperate. Do it up in a basic spread sheet in Word & print off a couple of copies.

[3] Filing your return. There’s 4 ways you can do this. Yourself, have a friend, relative etc do it for you, a generic accounting firm say H&R Block, or a professional CA.  Methods one & two are the poorest choices, very simply because you’re not familiar with all the little government details to give you best tax rate. Generic accounting firms are better, but they really specialize in personal tax returns, not business. Getting a professional CA to do it is your best bet. It’s their job so they already know more about taxes etc then you & I will ever know. (or want to)

Choose an accountant who specializes in small business with a proven track record. They may even already be a client of yours.  Think you can’t afford an accountant? Think again. It may even make the difference between paying taxes & getting a refund. Besides, you may even get a new client & your accountant fees will have paid for itself.

If you happen to live in the Toronto ON area, I recommend the services of Bennett Gold ( http://www.bennettgold.com ) & SBLR Acumen ( http://www.sblr.ca )

Not to mention, now is an ideal time to market your on site massage service to local accounting firms who are working virtually 24/7 in April.  Need a little os site tax time relief in the GTA, check out my corporate site @ http://www.inmyhands.ca

Bloom Where You Are!

April 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This post comes courtesy Melani Ward @ http://www.9keystosuccess.com

” ‘Bloom where you are’. I’m not sure who said that but I love it. As women, we have a tendency to think we can always be better moms, better business owners, better athletes, better wives, better friends, etc. But, the truth is, every gift we bring to the table right now is exactly enough. Wherever you are in your life right now is the perfect place for you to be – to have the relationship you want, to complete the program you’ve always wanted to launch, and to be who you’ve always wanted to be. So, don’t wait for it. Now is all you have and it’s absolutely, completely and utterly enough.”

If you have a goal, plan, dream, idea you want to do or accomplish. Go for it! Now! While the idea is fresh in your mind. You have all the resources you need right now to get started. The only person standing in your way is you. Because if you wait for the time to be right, to be perfect, it’ll never be.

The right time is right now.
